The Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer, "TR" standing for Transistor Rhythm.
Introduced in early 1980, it was originally intended as a tool for studio musicians to create demos.
While it does not sound much like a real drum kit, as other drum machine at the time, it features low-frequency sound capacities and various artifical percussion sounds that characterized the TR-808: a deep bass kick drum, tinny handclap sounds, the ticky snare, the tishy hi-hats (open and closed) and the spacey cowbell.
